Welcome to the website of the Corona del Mar Middle School and High School Mountain Bike Club Team. Our team is part of the SoCal Interscholastic Cycling League. In 2008, the Socal league established a high quality program of high school mountain bike racing in Southern California, completing the eighth season of league racing in May 2016. The league’s Facebook page is here.

The SoCal league is a chapter league of NICA, the national governing body for state-based high school leagues.

First and Foremost

The CdM Middle School/High School Mountain Bike Club Team is the first campus-based mountain bike team operating in the Newport-Mesa school district.  Our goal for the 2017 season is three-fold:

  1. Offer mountain biking as a viable sporting option for CdM students
  2. Create a model for expansion of campus-based middle and high school mountain bike teams throughout the NMUSD
  3. Have a minimum of two CdM Sea Queens on the team

A Bit of History

From January 2009 through May 2011, a number of CdM students teamed up with teens from other Orange County high schools and participated in SoCal league races as the Newport Beach Composite squad. The Newport Beach Composite team helped pioneer high school mountain bike racing in Southern California, enjoyed competitive success, created lasting friendships and wonderful memories while seeding the development of multiple Orange County based teams including the CdM squad.

The CdM Middle School/High School Mountain Bike Club Team Mission:

• Provide students who have the desire to mountain bike with the coaching and camaraderie that will help them achieve both competitive and non-competitive cross-country mountain biking goals in a safe and enjoyable manner;

• Develop an awareness of what it is to be an amateur athlete that is both gracious and respectful to their community;

• Create an environment in which they may discover new friendships and find role models;

• Guide students towards learning new skills and disciplines, and spread the foundations of mountain bike racing across the U.S.;

• Foster a responsible attitude toward the use of trails and wilderness;

• Promote the value of cycling to our community as a mode of transportation and as a life-long sport;

• Create a model high school mountain bike program that can be replicated throughout the NMUSD district.

The CdM Mountain Bike Club Team is not under the jurisdiction of the Corona del Mar High School Athletic Department
